Ajay Devgan (born: Vishal Veeru Devgan on 2 April 1969 is an Indian film actor, director, and producer who has established himself as one of the leading actors of Bollywood (Hindi cinema). Devgan has won numerous awards in his career, including two National Film Awards.

Starting his career as a child actor in Pyari Behna, he began his professional career six years later with Phool Aur Kaante in 1991 and received a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance. Devgan   then starred in successful films such as Jigar (1992), Dilwale (1994), Suhaag (1994), Naajayaz (1995), Diljale (1996) and Ishq (1997). Early in his career he was recognised as an action starDevgan   was quick to break the stereotype by picking out a variety of roles that allowed him to experiment with his talent. In 1998, he gave critically acclaimed performances in the in Mahesh Bhatt's drama Zakhm and Devgan received his first National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the movie. In 1999, his most-talked-about film was Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in which he played Vanraj.
In the early 2000s he starred in Raju Chacha (2000), Lajja (2001) and Tera Mera Saath Rahen (2001). In 2002, Devgan gave critically acclaimed performances in Ram Gopal Varma's fictional expose of Mumbai underworld Company.Devgan   played the character of a gangster called 'Malik' for which he won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor. Having done so, Devgan has established himself as one of the leading actors of Bollywood.
In addition, he owns a production company, Ajay Devgn Films, which was established in 2000. In 2008, he debuted as a film director with U Me Aur Hum.
Ajsy  has been married to Indian film actress, Kajol since 1999. They have two children, a daughter, Nysa, and a son, Yug. In August 2009. was the first in Bollywood to acquire a six-seater private jet for transport to shooting locations, promotions and personal trips.

Ajay was born in Delhi to Veena and Veeru Devgan. Originally from Mumbai, India, members of the  are all related to the  in Mumbai, is a well-known stunt choreographer and his mother Veena Devgan, a film producer. Ajay's brother, Anil Devgan, is a Hindi film director.  Devgan is an alumnus of the Silver Beach High School in Juhu and Mithibai College.Devgn dating fellow actor, Kajol in 1994, while filming for Gundaraj. Members of the media, labelled them an "unlikely pair" due to their contrasting personalities. he explained their relationship by saying, "We never resorted to the usual 'I Love you' routine. On 24 February 1999. The couple has two children. Their daughter Nysa was born on 20 April 2003 and their son Yug was born on 13 September 2010. Devgn and Kajol chose to store their newborn son's umbilical cord blood and tissues, which act as a stemcell source and help protect the child from several serious ailments.In August 2009, he's surname was changed to its current spelling from its more well-known "Devgan", at the request of his family.Devgan became the first  personality to acquire a private jet for transport to shooting locations, promotions and personal trips.Ajay  is the first Indian to own a

In 1991,  Devgn made his debut as an actor in Phool Aur Kaante. The film grossed INR11,000,000 and was the fourth highest grossing movie of the year and earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Male Newcomer. Phool Aur Kaante clashed with Yash Chopra directed Lamhe at the box office.
In 1992, Ajay  starred in Bollywood martial arts action romantic film  alongside Karisma Kapoor, which grossed INR70,000,000 and it was seventh highest grossing movie of the year at boxoffice., It was released in Diwali weekend and proved to be successful. It was Ajay  second success after Phool Aur Kaante.
In 1993, he starred in  which focused on love triangles, romantic themes, little action and the most common being revenge. he's next release was Sangram. The film is a story of enimity between 2 fathers Danny and Amrish Puri somewhat similar to QSQT but here the main story is the love triangle between Karisma, Ajay and Ayesha Jhulka. It was an average film. Then  Devgan worked with director Deepak Bahry in action film Ek Hi Raasta . In 1995, he appeared in Mahesh Bhatt's critically acclaimed movie Naajayaz, for which he was nominated as a Best Actor by Filmfare. His next venture was Hulchul with new director Milan Luthria alongside Kajol. Upon the initial meeting of Ajay  and Kajol, Kajol was angry at the producer for bringing an actor like he  and not an actor like Shah Rukh Khan.[citation needed] Ironically Ajay Devgn and Kajol would date for five years and eventually get married. In 1996,Ajay  starred in action movie Jung with Mithun Chakraborty, Rambha and Aditya Pancholi. His next release was an action movie called Jaan with Twinkle Khanna which was successful. Devgan   then starred in director Harry Baweja's film Diljale where Ajay  played a terrorist character Shaka.
In 1997 he starred in Itihaas with Twinkle Khanna which was flop. His next release was Indra Kumar's romantic comedy Ishq alongside , Juhi Chawla and Kajol, in which he played he , a rich boy in love with a poor girl, played by Kajol. Ajay Devgn next collaborated with director Rituparno Ghosh's, in the relationship drama Raincoat, an adaptation of O. Henry's The Gift of the Magi. In 2006's he portrayed the character of Othello in Omkara, the Hindi adaptation of William Shakespeare's Othello. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the film is a tragedy of sexual jealousy set against the backdrop of the political system in Uttar Pradesh. It premiered at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and was screened at the Cairo International Film Festival.,Rediff concluded about his performance"Othello is a tricky role, a leading man eclipsed by the villain. Yet the Moor is a brooding and compelling character, and Ajay  does valiantly with his material. Omkara strips Othello of the racism. Ajay's best bits are when restrained, and while there is a bit of a seen-that feel to his character, by the time the film is over, you realise just how unflinchingly solid he's been. The serious look that Ajay carries suits him to the T. Of course, he is exceptional in the film and looks every inch the character he portrays". In same year, Ajay starred in Rohit Shetty's . In 2007 he starred in two movies, directorAnubhav Sinha's action thriller Cash and .In 2008's Ajay  worked in social film Halla Bol with  and was cast with Pankaj Kapoor and Vidya Balan. The film was based on the life of activist Safdar Hashmi, who was killed by political rivals while performing on a street play (by the name of Halla Bol) in 1989.Devgan then starred in director Rohit Shetty's third film Sunday,
Ajay next starred in his directorial debut film, U Me Aur Hum (2008) with wife Kajol. Devgn described Kajol's participation in the project by saying, "he is always thorough with the nitty-gritties of her character before she begins shooting, Kajol was present for all the sittings and even gave her inputs." Part of an ensemble cast which included Kareena kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor, Movie was about a mistrustful wife who believed her husband was unfaithful, concluding: "There is nothing particularly new about a suspicious wife keeping tabs on her husband, and there is nothing particularly new in the way Ajay-Kareena play it." Golmaal Returns was a financial success with global revenues of INR792.5 million (US$13 million).
In 2009 he produced his third film  also directed by Rohit Shetty. The film did good business and was a semi-hit. Later in the year he starred in Vipul Shah's  with Salman Khan and Tamil film star Asin. The film was declared a flop.

In 2010 he featured in the comedy Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? alongside Paresh Rawal and Konkona Sen Sharma which was a success. same year, he featured in Prakash Jha's multi-starrer political thriller Rajneeti, Raajneeti was released in theatres worldwide on 4 June 2010, as well as issues about the national anthem.film was Made on budget of INR600 million (US$9.6 million) was released on June 2010, The film opened to positive reviews and was declared a "blockbuster", Devgan starred in Milan Luthria's  which was among the top grossers of 2010. The film and 's performance was well received by critics. Taran Adarsh noted "  Devgn is splendid as Sultan. The actor had enacted a similar role in Company, but it must be said that his interpretation is so different in Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai. Ajay  adds so much depth to the character, which only goes to prove his range and versatility. This is, without a trace of doubt, he's finest work so far". Another critics Komal nahta concluded "Ajay  is simply fantastic in the role of Sultan Mirz. Devgan was born to play this role. Right from his look to his acting including dialogue-delivery, everything is fabulous. Indeed, an award-winning performance!".Ajay was then starred in 's action-thriller film, Aakrosh.The movie is based on the topic of honour killings.Aakrosh mostly garnered positive reviews from all critics but was a huge disaster at the box office.At the end of the year,Ajay  reunited with director Rohit Shetty for his sequel Golmaal 3 to the 2008 release Golmaal Returns. One of the few actors who underplays his part admirably, Ajay returns to the over-the-top-action genre of films with this one".Singham was a huge success earning INR1 billion (US$16 million) domestically. Ajay then starred David Dhawan's  Rascals. The film also starred Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt and Kangana Ranaut.The film received mixed to negative response from critics. Despite opening strongly, it was a box office flop.
In 2012,Ajay Devgan featured in Tezz directed by Priyadarshan along with Anil Kapoor, Boman Irani, Kangna Ranaut, Sameera Reddy and .The movie received mixed reviews from critics and was a disaster at the boxoffice. Then Ajay featured in Rohit shetty's multi-starrer Bol Bachchan, where he acted alongside Abhishek Bachchan and , Bol bachchan also reached hit status.
Same year,ajay devgn starred in Ashwni Dhir's Son of Sardar which was hit at box office by grossing around INR1.38 billion (US$22 million) despite underperforming.In 2013, he featured in the remake Himmatwala.which was released on 29 March and did not perform well on boxoffice and was a disaster critically and commercially. he will next feature in Prakash Jha's multi-starrer political Drama Satyagraha.

The sequel will be released in 2013.
In 2012,he starred in Rohit Shetty's   action comedy film, Bol Bachchan which was joint production by . The film, made on a massive budget of INR700 million (US$11 million) is an official remake of the popular 1979 film Gol Maal.the film was released on 6 July 2012 in around 2575 screens worldwide with 2700 prints. It received mixed critical acclaim but had a good opening at the box office. Bol Bachchan has become one of the  in India.  declared the film as a "hit". where it grossed INR1580 million (US$25 million) worldwide.The same year Ajay starred in Ashwni Dhir's  romantic action comedy film, Son of Sardaar which was joint production by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures,also featuring Sanjay Dutt,  and Juhi Chawla in lead roles.The film released on 13 November 2012. Whilst having competition with the Yash Raj film Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Son of Sardaar managed to do excellent business at the box office worldwide. Box Office India rated Son of Sardaar as Hit in India, and an Average grosser in the Overseas Markets. It went on to gross INR1.5 billion (US$24 million) worldwide.

They subsequently got married on 24 February 1999 in a traditional Maharashtrian style ceremony at the Devgn house. The wedding was subject to wide media scrutiny, as certain members of the media criticised Kajol's decision to settle down at the "peak of her career". However, it was later clarified by Kajol that instead of quitting films, she would cut down on the amount of work that  did.
Following his marriage, Kajol moved into his, and his parents, house at the latter's ancestral house in Juhu, Kajol clarified that they were "like parents to me". Rumours have often romantically linked he with other Bollywood actresses, and have reported about an imminent divorce, "I don't believe in those rumours because I know the way this industry functions. You cannot continue a marriage without the basic trust. Frankly, I don't care for such talk."
